Nicholas Browne

I am a registered psychologist with a background in disability support, child protection, and trauma-informed counseling. Over the past four years, I have worked with diverse populations, including survivors of sexual assault, children in protective services, and individuals facing significant life challenges. My approach is direct yet compassionate, helping clients move beyond self-awareness toward meaningful cognitive and behavioral change.

I am also interested in working with LGBT individuals, culturally diverse communities, and disenfranchised groups, including single fathers. My goal is to provide practical, evidence-based support while maintaining a therapeutic space that is grounded on principles of unconditional positive regard and self-determination. While I have extensive experience in trauma work, I am particularly passionate about supporting socially isolated men, including those living with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.

Counselling Experience

Prior to my roles as a psychologist I had worked in disabilities for over a decade and thus have developed an approach with a strong background in human services generally, including Child Safety, Disabilities and Youth.

My work has mostly been in public, private and non-government organizations, including a sexual assault counselling service where I was required to develop expertise in Trauma-informed CBT as well as Protective Behaviours – helping children keep themselves safe from risks of assault.

In most roles I have developed expertise in being a flexible practitioner with a well-attuned listening ear, adaptable to most presentations. The above therapy approaches are taken as a guide, and our experience will boil down to how you and I receive and respond to each other on the day, and you will be encouraged and empowered, with informed consent, to make your own choice about any therapist or approach being right for you.
